Has a great thought-provoking introduction using medieval castle security as an illustration to launch the book. The author might have brought the book full circle and finished it off with a reference back to that illustration at then end, but he chose not to do that. That would have been fun.

Provides the essentials in just the right amount of detail to introduce the reader to the topic.

I will challenge myself to read this again in a few months. A difficult, but very useful read.

• If you are really interested doing software development securely, or if you are responsible for any type of digital security, this is a great place to start. The book has security lessons applicable in a much wider sphere than just software development.

• My son has recently become obsessed with fishing, and I am rediscovering the fun of it after having not fished for decades. I was looking for a nice intro to the sport to refresh my memory, and bring my son into the fold. After a quick scan on I ordered this book based on the overall rating. It's nice, but not quite what I was looking for, and after a few minutes reading it I realized why. It's basically a collection of fishing related articles that probably appeared in Field & Stream at some point or another, loosely organized into a book. There's no real narrative thread, and a lot of pre-existing knowledge is required to get the most out of it. I'm planning on keeping it, because there's some useful stuff in it (e.g., how to make a worm farm) but I'm going to have to order another more basic intro guide to help ramp up our knowledge before we can get the most out of this. If you're looking for a "beginner's guide" type of book I would recommend looking elsewhere and then picking this up once you've got the basics down.
• If you have been fishing a lifetime, this book probably won't offer much to learn. That being said, for the young adult or child, this makes a great read. One of the biggest deterrents to involving young people in fishing is having a skunk day where you catch nothing and miss out on one of the greatest experiences in life, landing a fish for the first time. With the tips and lessons in this book, you can make your way to the water with a little more confidence than before and you will catch more fish, which is the key to a lifetime of enjoyment of fishing. The broad spectrum of topics makes this a great introduction book, but there is so much more to cover than one book could provide. This is the starter for a lifetime of weekends in a kayak on a creek battling smallmouth and rock bass, or just a bucket of worms and bobbers for some farm pond bluegill. Start here and never stop fishing.
• This book is just beautiful. I've purchased many books and most aren't in color and don't have nice thick pages or have illistrations on every page that keeps you entertained while reading like this book does. The book itself in terms of material just screams quality I would have loved to see a review specifying that fact I am quite surprised they did not charge more for this book but then again I might not have purchased it if they had. It has all the information I have always wondered about. If your like me and have ever been walking in a store in the sporting goods section and were thinking wow tons of lures I wonder how you would even use them or when to use them or how they would be effective or what works best trust me this book explains it all from building your own lures to store bought lures to various techniques. I have only glanced it over not read it through yet but I do believe they are missing a section for net fishing. Over all excellent because it teaches the novice alot.
• Excellent book. It describes how to catch dozens of different species of freshwater fish (plus a few salt water species). It shows you how to tie knots, what type of bait to use, where to fish for each species, the best type of line and tackle to use, etc., etc. It contains dozens of photos of various fish along with photos of the best lures and baits to use for that particular fish. The descriptions and instructions are very easy to understand, and the color photos are superb. About 95% of the book involves freshwater fishing techniques. The other 5% dabbles in saltwater/inshore fishing. The paper is of high quality and the soft cover is very durable. This would make a great gift for anyone who mainly fishes in fresh water. It's a classy book that I like to keep on my coffee table.
• I purchased this book for a Christmas present for my Brother-In-Law who enjoys Bass fishing. Well, really, fishing in general. As an avid fly fisherman myself, I read other reviews, and the product description and decided to purchase this for him. When it was delivered I spent a few moments combing through it to make sure I didn't just waste a money on something he'll never read. It was one of his favorite gifts, and he spent the entire time reading it Christmas day! Now I need to buy myself one )
  
  You can google all of the free information you want (trust me we have), but it's never going to be put together in such a perfect way as this book puts it together. The pictures are stunning, and the information contained is worth a read to any fisherman - even the pros! It sits nicely on a coffee table, and the book layout makes it so you don't feel obligated to read it cover to cover - although you'll find yourself doing just that because of just how great the book reads. You don't need to be a fisherman to find this book interesting to read, and it may just be the thing to get people you know interested in fishing.
  
  Both of us are now on pins and needles to wait for this upstate NY weather to warm up so we can put some of these skills we learned from this book out on the stream and catch some beauties!
  
  If you're reading this review, you're hesitating too much on purchasing it. Buy the book. Buy two - one for you and your fishing buddy. You won't regret it.
• I didn't actually expect more. And honestly, there aren't a lot of good non-fly fishing books. While many techniques are the same, a lot of the books available are from the 70s and 80s and spend a lot of time discussing equipment of that era. So, this book certainly fills a gap in my library, and it is better than what I was forced to consider the previous best general use books (the idiots and dummies guides, though I would still recommend those as well). If you are a person who gets a lot of in-depth fishing technique info online, then this may not be the book for you. If you, like me, like to have reference books at home, then I think it may be a book for you. The main problem with the book is depth, everything is covered so lightly that it is like a sampler. If anything catches your eye you will likely have to look other places for an in-depth explanation of how to do it and how to adjust it to your choices of location and gear. There are other small issues. I would have rated it 3 stars if it were not for the fact that there isn't anything better.

"Four and a half stars for Laila and Chad's story in My Unexpected Hope. It's been several months since I read Katie and Asher's story in My Hope Next Door, so a few chapters into MUH I went back and skimmed thru the MYND to refamiliarize myself with all these characters, since their lives are so intertwined. Ms. Gray portrays, so heartbreakingly well, the stark life of an addict and those who love them, and are loved by them. Laila kicked Chad out, changed the locks, and divorced him over a year ago, after he broke promise after promise about his addiction to booze and drugs. Chad flees to Atlanta, several hours away, because he's in debt to the local dealer and everyone knows what happens to those who don't pay up! Even though cutting ties with Chad was a desperate life saving move, Laila is still so fragile inside, and is almost ready to move to the neighboring town to make a fresh start with Ben, the kind, quiet, solid Christian man she met at church in the new town. He doesn't know everything about her past with Chad, and she's trying to keep her two lives separate. But, as things go, Laila's two worlds collide when Ben shows up at her job and someone contacts Chad and he returns -- sober and trying to stay under the radar of Slim, the drug dealer, but desperate to win Laila back. There is so much pain in these lives that you long for a safe place for each of them to find peace, and hope. Ms. Gray does a good job of maneuvering us through all the minefields that could lead to happiness. Her characters are maturely fleshed out and the story is well developed. I stop just short of 5 stars due to some last minute plot machinations that strain the bands of believability. This story will wring you out like your grandma's old time washing machine, but in a real good way! Hope there is another book coming for this series! Would love to hear what happens to Cooper, who we first met and seemed all but unredeemable in MHND, but was a good friend to Chad in MUH."

  After a string nasty relapses, Chad leaves town leaving chaos in his wake. He has a secret that makes running seem like the only option. He finds the willpower to get clean and wants to have a triumphant return after he receives his one year sobriety chip but, a call in the middle of the night leaves him questioning his plan. What he wants more than anything is to win back the heart and trust of his now ex-wife (due to a non-contested divorce) but, he may already be too late.
  
  Laila Richardson wants desperately to just move on. Move on from the wreckage that was her marriage to her high school sweetheart Chad, move out of the town she was born and raised in, and finally move on with a new man. Why can’t she have the fairytale ending? She has the man and the plan, even the cute little cottage. She thinks she is right on track when, a bombshell shows back up on her front porch after years without so much as a word.
  
  I won’t spoil the book for you but, man this is an awesome book! Picking up a few months after “My Hope Next Door” left off, you see Laila in the best place she has been in a long time. She is on the road to mending a broken relationship with her childhood best friend, Katie (the main character from My Hope Next Door). Through this relationship she is seeing that she can’t change Chad. Chad must make the decision to change himself. This takes a huge weight off her shoulders. However, it still doesn’t fill the hole in her heart.
  
  Chad’s life has drastically changed in the last nine months. He has gotten sober, got a job, kept the job, and started building a life outside of the drug world. Chad is a living testament to all the struggles of those faced with a life of addiction. However, his struggles are only just beginning when he stands face-to-face with Laila on what was once “their” front porch.
  
  “My Unexpected Hope” is so much more than a love story. Tammy L. Gray weaves a life-like epic that will have you riding a full range roller-coaster of emotions throughout. In my opinion, she is a master of writing characters who could be your neighbor or someone else you know. Trust is so easy to lose but, so hard to win back. We all can relate to a situation where trust has either been won or lost. Can Chad regain the trust of Laila and ultimately rebuild the marriage he let fall apart? Can Laila see past years of hurt and broken promises from the one who vowed to cherish her above all else? Read “My Unexpected Hope” by Tammy L. Gray to find out.

• Absolutely wonderful! A great story about second chances. It's a wonderful look at how a willingness to forgive can help move a life or lives forward. Wonderful character development. It wasn't a case of a quick fix. You felt the genuine hurt of the heroine. You felt the sorrow of the hero for the obvious pain he had caused. He characters had to grow and work through real emotions and hurts and real life to get to a place of common ground. You can relate to the characters and the story is believable. No sex. Genuine relationships being built on changing hearts and overcoming past hurts and mutual respect for one another.
  
  Thank you to this author for showing that reconciliation can be a possibility when all of the elements are there.
• Great book that pulls you into the story of this couple-their struggles, their fears, their hurts, their anguish as well as their victories, their hopes, their healing, and their redemption. You feel every ounce of Chad's remorse and his battles with temptation. Ms. Gray doesn't gloss over his struggles or the weight of decisions made, but she offers hope in the midst of it all. Laila thinks she's ready to move on, but she's not truly ready to let the new guy in, to let her life with him intersect with who she is, where she's from. In her attempt to move on, she’s really just running from her past. On their own, in their broken states, Chad and Laila can't make "them" work. They can't be what the other needs them to be. This book is the journey of them learning how to be with each other in a new way, a healthy way, a better way. At the end, you'll feel the relief of a real, new, fresh, clean start with them.
  
  Tammy L. Gray never fails to blow me away in how she deals with some of the most tragic circumstances of life while clearly showing the power of God to overcome, heal, and redeem. She never glosses over or minimizes the situations which only show God's mightiness to redeem any brokenness we face.
